Montgomery to display one of a pair of statues

Fère-en-Tardenois, France and Montgomery, Alabama will soon be displaying matching statues honoring WWI soldiers.

The Croix Rouge Farm Memorial Foundation was made possible by a gift from veteran, businessman, and community leader, Nimrod T. Frazer. In turn, the foundation has now given a gift to the people of Alabama.

Butler’s Rainbow Soldier is a design created by British sculptor James Butler, RA. The sculpture is to honor the 167th Alabama National Guard Unit of the 42nd Rainbow Division that took part in the Battle of Croix Rouge Farm. The statue is a casting of the original that now stands at the Croix Rouge Farm.

The Croix Rouge Farm Memorial Foundation was founded in 2005 to establish these memorials, and the initial statue was dedicated to the country of France in 2012. Frazer is an expert on WWI and the activities of the 167th regiment, and wanted to make certain no one was forgotten. He will soon be receiving the Legion of Honor decoration from the government of France.

There is no admission fee and everyone is welcome to attend the dedication that will take place on August 28th from 5:00 to 6:00 PM, so it is the sort of occasion that might be highlighted through local poster printing. The statue will stand at Union Station, located at 300 Water Street in Montgomery. There will be many military, elected and business and community leaders in attendance. Consul General of France, Louis de Corail, will also be present. Call (334) 230-8300 for more information.
