A new technical high school recently opened in Montgomery.
The school is called Montgomery Preparatory Academy for Career Technologies (MPACT), and currently has 476 students and 20 members of the faculty.
There are 11 career labs, a media center, and four classrooms, which are set up like workspaces, which is what students would expect to see in the workforce. According to Principal Marsha Baugh, the labs are also designed like a workplace environment, as students will clock in and out, need to wear protective gear, and act as if they were in the workplace.
MPACT provides a real-world educational environment. The faculty includes skilled trade professionals with many years of experience in the real world in their respective careers. Programs are specially designed for students so that can graduate from the school, be certified in their industry, and have credits for two-year colleges through dual enrollment.
Students can go on to study at two- and four-year colleges or directly enter the workforce. Baugh added that for the students who want to enter the workforce after graduation, the school will benefit the businesses and industry in the area with skilled workers in their fields.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was recently held. Most likely programs were created by a local Print company, which may have also created additional materials about the school and its offerings.
