Just Mercy to premiere in Montgomery

A Hollywood movie based on a book with the same name will premier in public theaters in Montgomery, a whole month before the rest of the country will be able to see it.

Called “Just Mercy,” it is based on the story of Bryan Stevenson who was trying to free a wrongly convicted man from death row.

Stevenson’s story is based on real-world events. He is the founder of an organization called Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) which strives to get justice for people who are wrongly convicted. Stevenson’s nonprofit organization has been working to put a stop to mass incarceration in Montgomery since 1989. When asked about the movie’s early release in Montgomery, he said:

“We’ve actually just made a deal with Warner Brothers to have screenings in the city that day so that Montgomery will get to see it before anybody else does, which I think is appropriate.”

Jamie Foxx will be acting as the wrongly accused Walter McMillan, while Michael B. Jordan takes up the role of Stevenson as he fights against the justice system. Brie Larson also takes up a supporting role as Eva Lansley, the woman who helped Stevenson start EJI. More information about the movie will no doubt be made available on poster printing.

The public premiere will hit Montgomery theatres on December 20.
