Montgomery will become the home of the first manufacturing plant in North America for Gerhardi Kuntstofftechnik, a German auto supplier.
The company will make an investment of $37.9m to build the plant and will hire 235 people to work there. Construction is scheduled to begin next year with production beginning in 2019. Once the plant opens, the company may turn to business card printing for the cards that may be needed by some of the employees.
A ground-breaking ceremony was recently held at the site in the Montgomery Industrial Park and was attended by local and state leaders, and officials from the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce.
According to Reinhard Hoffman, Managing Director for Gerhardi, the company is very excited about this opportunity as the location has a great deal of support, excellent infrastructure, and is in close proximity to many original equipment manufacturers.
Governor Robert Bentley said that the automotive industry is the leading advanced industry in the state and he is honored to be welcoming the first supplier of automotive parts in the United States to Montgomery. He hopes that there will be a strong and lasting partnership between the city and the company.
This was a major victory for the city, Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange commented, which is developing an automotive manufacturing cluster that is becoming strong and expanding.
