The Montgomery Bike Club is planning a ride later this month to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Selma-to-Montgomery voters’ rights march.
According to the treasurer of the bike club, Robert Traphan, the club wanted to celebrate this special anniversary of the march. Many people from out of state expressed interest in this ride and so, as the local bike club, it was in a strong position to organize the event.
The ride will start at the Montgomery State Capitol and then riders and their bikes will be transported to Selma. Traphan has said that the route itself is well suited to bikes, with wide shoulders along much of the roads.
There will be a photo opportunity at the State Capitol and then another at the Edmund Pettus Bridge after the commencement of the ride at Riverfront Park in Selma. The route will follow US 80 to the Lowndes Interpretive Center, which is the halfway mark and the site of a rest stop. It will continue along US 80 with stops to visit trail markers, ending at the Capitol.
Along the route, there will be mechanics and buses to pick up riders who no longer want to ride the rest of the way.
The ride will take place on February 21 beginning at 9:00 am. Most likely, the club has turned to various Print companies to help with promotional items for this event.Get a Free Quote for Print
