Classic show set for reboot in Montgomery?

The final episode of "The Wonder Years" aired almost 30 years ago. If the information making rounds in several Hollywood publications is true, a modern version of the show is planned, set in Alabama in the 1960s.

Fred Savage starred in the original show. He played the role of Kevin Arnold as he grew up with his middle-class family back in the ‘60s. Reports state that the new version will be about a black family living in Montgomery, with civil rights issues are expected to be a major theme.

The show will air on ABC and the network has already put in the order to make a pilot before making a decision on whether to pick it up. No information has been released about who the actors will be. Graphic designs are often used to advertise TV shows.

Steven Reed, who served as Montgomery’s first black mayor, is happy that a show like this is being produced. He feels that it is a great opportunity to show what life was like during such an important period. He also said:

“It is made even more special by the fact that Saladin Patterson, a Montgomery native, will be executive producer. We’re pleased to see one of our own use his influence in the entertainment industry to set this series in his hometown.”

Savage is expected to take on a behind-the-camera role in the reboot.
