Summer launch for temporary Helensburgh skate park

A temporary skate park facility is to be created at the waterfront in Helensburgh to replace the one that is currently out of action, with the park expected to be ready for this summer.

The design of this temporary park will be undertaken by Unit 23, a Dumbarton-based company that has long experience in the design of skating facilities. It will see new wooden fittings and equipment installed at the waterfront site, after a campaign group called the Helensburgh Skate Park Project argued that the equipment already there was in too poor a condition to be used.

This equipment will include ramps that are made out of wood. Jackie Hood from the campaign group told the Helensburgh Advertiser that:

“My priority is to get something made by skaters, for skaters. Then we have more leverage. I’m a lot more positive. It’s been quite the emotional rollercoaster.”

Campaigning groups in Helensburgh can always turn to shops that provide flyer printing if they want to promote their activities throughout the town.

This park is a short-term replacement for the original one in the town. That had to be dismantled and the parts placed in storage so that the planned Helensburgh Leisure Centre could be constructed at the site. However, the local council has indicated that it will be rebuilt there once construction of the centre is completed.
