This hotel, which is located at West Clyde Street, is set to become a ‘boutique’ establishment, with jobs for local people being created in the process.
Community groups and politicians have given their support to the plan, stating that it will meet accommodation needs and bring new investment into Helensburgh.
Prior to this announcement, speculation had been rife in the town that the Imperial – which remains a popular feature there – might be turned into a housing block. However, Seymour and Clink, the selling agency, stated this was never the plan.
The Imperial, which dates back to the 19th century, has lain disused for over a year now. It underwent a previous refurbishment two years ago, but subsequently closed its doors in January of 2014.
Councillor Gary Mulvaney, who chairs the area committee for Helensburgh and Lomond, told the Helensburgh Advertiser that:
“It is quite an iconic building in the town, it’s got a long history in the hotel. I think a boutique hotel would enhance Helensburgh, it’s something the town does not have just now, and I think we’ve got to warmly welcome it.”
Once it has been refurbished, the Imperial will be able to turn to brochure printers in Helensburgh, to supply promotional materials.
