Scottish Chamber Orchestra coming to Helensburgh

Helensburgh fans of classical music will be able to enjoy a rare treat this summer, with the news that one of the top orchestras in Scotland is paying a visit to the town.

The Scottish Chamber Orchestra is scheduled to spend the summer of 2024 on tour where it will perform pieces by composers such as Beethoven, Schumann and Elgar. It will be visiting much of the country during this jaunt and one of the stop-offs will be in Helensburgh. However, not all of the performances on the tour will be identical to each other.

The plan is to vary both the musicians involved and the choices of music on the tour, which runs until September. The venue for the Helensburgh show will be Victoria Halls and the conductor will be Maxim Emelyanchev. Venues sometimes advertise upcoming concerts using poster printing from local shops.

It will be one of the three performances classified as ‘Summer Classics’ alongside those in Kinlochleven and Blair Atholl. It will consist of Serenade for Strings by Elgar as an opener, with the Cello Concerto by Schumann following it. The Symphony No 7 by Beethoven will conclude the show.

The orchestra’s chief executive, Gavin Reid, said that everyone was excited to be performing throughout Scotland to mark the 50th anniversary of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. It will be in Helensburgh on 3rd July.
