Revamp for Helensburgh care home

A care home located in Helensburgh has undergone a major revamp to provide it with improved facilities, with those who reside there having been involved throughout the process.

Morar Lodge Care Home is in the town’s Glasgow Road and now has

a space outside the main building that has been named The Glebe, which is intended as a place for the residents to relax in.

Alzheimer Scotland’s Victoria McLeod visited the home for the day to unveil this new facility, with two of the home’s residents – Arthur Burns and Helen Wilson – helping her to do so.

The Morar Lodge Home care services manager, Sandra Sallie, told the Helensburgh Advertiser how the revamp came to happen:

“We had a small outside space that was not being used, so we decided from the relatives’ meetings that we should utilise it for the benefit of the residents and have created an outside space within the home.”

She went on to add that those living there had enjoyed a say in everything from the mural painted on The Glebe, to the colours used to decorate it. Homes such as this one often make use of places that provide newsletter printing so that they can keep residents informed about upcoming activities.

Sallie also stated that Victoria McLeod, who is Helensburgh Dementia Resource Centre’s dementia advisor, had been specially invited to carry out the grand unveiling.
