The pier has been out of action for over a year due to safety concerns, but Argyll and Bute Council is now hoping to get the green light to begin the work of restoring it. This would involve making the main pier area safe for people to walk on as well as adding further safety measures such as barriers, but would also see improvements made to the facility like the provision of seating.
The damage that has made large sections of the pier unsafe for local people to use was partly caused by a fire, but the damaged parts are not included in these repairs, which are expected to cost £1 million. Print shops in the nearby area are sometimes used to help provide Signs letting the public know when services are out of order.
According to the Helensburgh Advertiser, the report submitted by the council states:
“The scope of works is minor repairs of the existing timber pier and the supply and installation of removable pedestrian parapets and benches at Helensburgh Pier.”
The planning committee for the council is expected to come to a decision on whether the work can go ahead early next year.Get a Free Quote for Signs Get a Free Quote for Print
