As its name indicates, what makes Who Let the Dads Out? stand out from other parent and child groups is that it is for men – meaning male carers, fathers and granddads.
Bethesda’s pastoral elder, Gordon Weir, told the Helensburgh Advertiser that the majority of such groups were for women, but that this one would allow men to grab some precious time with their young children.
“The whole objective is to get the children together with other kids and also the dads to have opportunities to meet with other dads and share time together and also to give the mums a break and get a rest.”
It is the first group of this type that Bethesda has played host to and will take place once a month, every second Saturday. Those attending the group will be able to enjoy a range of activities, including coffee breaks, crafts, arts and music performances.
Bethesda will be able to rely on places that supply leaflet printing in Helensburgh, to ensure that local people know about the group once it is underway.
Who Let the Dads Out? is a UK-wide organisation, based within churches, having been created to provide a group specifically for male parental figures.
