New Helensburgh welcome signs get green light

New Signs that will welcome visitors to Helensburgh are set to be placed at three locations in the town, after the community council gave the idea the green light at a recent meeting.

Helensburgh Community Council approved Plans for these Signs to be put up at Sinclair Street, on the A818, and at the town’s west and east edges, on the A814. They are set to replace the existing Signs greeting people when they enter the town, which have been affected badly over the years by fading and other damage.

Members of the community council were given a choice of several different designs. In the case of the lettering, the options were a typeface inspired by Charles Rennie Mackintosh or one in a ‘transport’ style – with the latter getting the vote.

When it came to the imagery, the choice was between line drawings or paintings depicting the notable Helensburgh attractions the Hill House and the Clock Tower, with the council voting for the drawings. Graphic design outlets are often used to help show what different Signs will look like.

Speaking to the Helensburgh Advertiser, Tariq Durrani from the community council said:

“The next steps are to establish a campaign to raise funds to construct and install the new Signs at the locations indicated above.”

Details about what this campaign will involve are yet to be announced.
