Reginald MacDonald was one of the GSA students exhibiting work at the annual graduation show, over a year after the blaze in which so much student artwork was destroyed.
The 23-year-old was among those who endured the worst losses, with everything from completed sculptures to his notes and sketchbooks being destroyed before it could be showcased at the 2014 degree show.
Speaking to a reporter from the Helensburgh Advertiser, MacDonald said:
“I lost all of it; it was essentially the combination of four years of study. It was heartbreaking to see it go.
“The fire pulled people together. We graduated anyway, but didn’t have a degree show – and that’s the important thing.”
Following this, the Phoenix Bursary was established by GSA for those students affected, with 90 of those who received grants exhibiting in this new show.
MacDonald stated that he had moved on from the disappointment by developing a new direction for his sculpting, with 16 of the results unveiled at the exhibition.
Art exhibitions of this kind, which ended on August 2, often make use of catalogue printing in Helensburgh and other areas to provide the glossy Catalogues detailing the various pieces on show.Get a Free Quote for Catalogues
