With only two public slipways onto Loch Lomond, there is a lot of concern over the announcement that one of them, at Milarrochy By on the east side of Loch Lomond will be closing, leaving the slipway at Balloch as the only public slip left into the very popular Loch.
The fact that there was no public consultation or any engagement with stakeholders has been a source of upset for many users. The National Park Authority has written to all users informing that from April 1st the slipway will close due to a number of factors and needing to strike a balance between all users/visitors in the area. So far the Authority have not released any Health and Safety Report and this action is seen as another step in the privatisation of the Loch.
Causing further worry is that the Balloch slipway is at the narrow end of the loch. This means that a lot of people will be concentrated at the one end instead of more evenly spread throughout the Loch. A further worry is that the Balloch slipway closes for events such as the Great Scottish Swim.
National Park Authority have no Plans to create any new slipways in other locations.
Campaigners against actions like this can use local printers to produce Flyers detailing the changes and issues and hand them out to users over the coming weeks to generate enough public opinion to encourage the decision to be revisited.
