Locals encouraged to sign up for Helensburgh race

A new trail race event will be coming to Helensburgh this autumn, and people who live in the town are being encouraged to put their names down for it.

Called the Trident 10k, this event is the brainchild of Helensburgh Amateur Athletics Club. It will see participants run over an off-road countryside route that takes them past the Trossachs, Loch Lomond, Arrochar Alps and the Clyde. Those attending can expect a genuine test of fitness and stamina, as well as a chance to enjoy areas of scenic beauty.

The starting point for the race will be Helensburgh Rugby Club, which is also where it will finish. Most of the run will be along dirt roads and trails, including the Duchess Woods and the Highlandman’s Road.

Now that entries for the event have opened, Helensburgh Amateur Athletics Club is keen to get as many people to sign up as possible. Flyer printing from shops in the town is one potential option for the organisers of events like this to help get the word out.

A spokesperson told the Helensburgh Advertiser that:
“The loop covers a distance of approximately 10k and has an elevation gain of 381m, or 1,250 feet. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it!”

A total of 80 spots are available for the race, which will be held on Saturday, 14 September.
