The chosen site is on West Princes Street, right in the heart of Helensburgh, and it would see the area turned into a place for shops and offices – as well as potentially for outdoor market stalls. Two years ago, the council granted permission for the buildings currently at the site to be knocked down and this permission remains in place until the summer of next year. When new shops open at sites like this, they often make use of flyer printing outlets in the area to advertise.
An access and design statement was included with the Plans as part of the submission, written by MH Planning Associates. This argues that, although one of these buildings falls within a conservation area, the rules on this do not mean that no change to such areas can be made and should not stand in the way of the application.
The Helensburgh Advertiser goes on to say:
“The proposed renovation of the existing building, and its conversion to a new beneficial use, will not harm the character or the appearance of the conservation area and thus there will be no conflict with policy in this respect.”
A decision is scheduled for next month.
