The money for the improvements to the pier and the wider waterfront area of Helensburgh has come partly from the Place Based Investment Programme set up by the Scottish Government and partly from Crown Estates. Brand new lights are set to be installed at the pier and its masonry section will be resurfaced, with Heron Bros Ltd the builder in charge of the project.
This company has also carried out the waterfront landscaping and will ensure that the work on Helensburgh Pier blends well with that. The revamped pier and waterfront will be the sort of tourist attractions that are often promoted through the use of brochure printing from Helensburgh shops.
Speaking to the official website for Argyll and Bute Council, Councillor Robin Currie stated:
“Carrying out essential improvement works to the listed pier will not only visually lift this area of the town but will increase pedestrian safety and add value to the substantial investment already taking place at the waterfront.”
The pier has now been closed off so that the renovation work can be completed. It is expected to be ready to reopen to the public in around eight weeks’ time.
