There are 28 members of Mothers Union Helensburgh at the moment, with the Church of St Michael and All Angels serving as their main base. As part of Plans to give the charity more widespread appeal, they have stated that they will be changing the name, while retaining the same ethos.
This involves raising money for global projects, as well as carrying out community work within Helensburgh, but the group feels that a change of name will help attract people of differing genders and ages during the upcoming year.
Former leader, Joan Thompson told a reporter from the Helensburgh Advertiser that many of the organisation’s activities would make them of interest to anyone who wants to help raise much needed funds for people in other countries:
“It goes to women in countries where women are considered to be of a lower class. The money goes towards educating them and giving them the tools to start a local business making jewellery or weaving Boxes.”
