Friends of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs join up with the Forestry Commission Scotland

Friends of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs, based in Balloch, have joined up with the Forestry Commission Scotland and local landowner John Montgomery to work on the path to a beautiful viewpoint built in honour of John Lauder.

The anniversary of John Lauder’s death will be 100 years ago this December, on the 28th.  John was killed in the line of duty during the Great War as he served in France as an officer with the 8th Argyll and Highlanders.  John’s father was the well kent Scottish entertainer Harry Lauder, who was on stage in London when news reached him of his son’s death.

Harry Lauder lived in Argyll when not working elsewhere.

Also helping in the restoration of the path and steps will be the trainee from the Mountains and the People Project – a group that will specialise in making outdoor paths more accessible.

With the relaunch of the path and viewpoint it is hoped new people will be attracted to the area and be a boost to local businesses too.  This will be further enhanced with a phase two project to include better signage for the route.

Projects such as these can hugely benefit from using local printers to produce leaflets and Signs detailing some of the features of the trail.
