Food festival to be held in Helensburgh

Helensburgh is set to play host to a festival of food and drink later this year, marking the first event of this kind to be held in the town, as it seeks to make its mark on the culinary scene in Scotland.

This inaugural food and drink fest will run alongside one of Helensburgh’s most popular and longstanding annual events – the Summer Festival – with its last day being scheduled to coincide with the latter event.

Helensburgh Community Council was the organisation that first mooted the possibility of launching a festival dedicated to food, during 2016, and the idea quickly garnered the backing of many of the town’s food shops and eateries. Helensburgh and Lomond Chamber of Commerce has also given its support to the idea.

Members of the community council are now set to spend the upcoming weeks visiting cafés, restaurants and shops to secure further support, with Terrace Coffee House owner David Stewart telling the Helensburgh Advertiser that he is on board:

“It’s a great way of telling people that Helensburgh is flourishing, it’s back open for business and the town centre is looking lovely. I can only see positives from this, and I hope other restaurants, café owners and food shops realise that too.”

The festival will be held in mid-August and brochure printers might be needed to advertise it.
