A Church in Dumbarton has received some bad news about the condition of the building. St Patrick’s, which has faithfully served Dumbarton for closing in on 200 years has got a bill for repairs that will cost some £200,000
Sadly recent ceiling issues were not the root cause but rather old and now defective leadwork and guttering were past their sell-by. The ingress of water an cause not only damp and rot issues, but has brought down ceilings too, putting several rooms out of action. This comes on the back of news that the bell tower, a well known local landmark, is also in need of attention.
The church will be handicapped because the usual methods of fundraising, such as coffee mornings, sales or dances would all be held in the hall which is now out of use for safety reasons.
The hall plays a major role in the community and is frequently used, meaning that for the immediate future, no bookings can be taken but also existing bookings will need a new location in order to go ahead.
In times like this, organisations can use local printers to produce leaflets detailing the problems with the building as well as various fundraising events and timescales.
