Community group in Helensburgh to receive grant

A group in Helensburgh with Plans to buy the town’s Red Cross Hall and refurbish it for use by the local people has been awarded a grant by the council.

Argyll and Bute Council gave the go-ahead for grant funding of £41,000 to be given to Helensburgh Community Hall Ltd. The organisation is aiming to buy the building and restore it to former glories before putting it to use as a wellbeing centre and central hub for people living in the town, with this grant to be put towards that goal.

The grant is set to come out of the money that the council was awarded from the Town Centre Capital Fund, which was set up by the Scottish Government for projects designed to help with the regeneration of Scotland’s town centres.

It is the second funding boost that the group has received recently, as it was also handed £160,000 by the Scottish Land Fund to put towards the acquisition of the building, which is situated in East Princes Street.

Community venues like the hub planned for Helensburgh sometimes use brochure printing companies to provide them with leaflets showcasing upcoming events.

Helensburgh Community Hall Ltd has launched a campaign on a crowd-funding website to raise the rest of the money needed to buy the hall and revamp it.
