Clydebank Sinkhole

Clydebank traffic is still being affected by the Kilbowie sinkhole.

With no vehicles allowed to use Kilbowie Road between the roundabouts, locals are having a hard time of it with the diversion forcing all vehicles along what is usually a much quieter road.

The sinkhole is estimated to be 62m deep, which is deeper than Clydebank’s Titan Crane is high!   The bottom 56 metres will be filled by the Coal Authority in a job that will take around 2 months to complete.  Then the local authority – West Dumbartonshire Council take over and fill the remaining 6 metres.  This task will take around 4 months to complete.  The top 6 meters is a much wider void than the bottom 56m

For locals, there is much misery and no obvious start let alone end to the issue.  Last week saw a lorry unloading at the Duntocher shops with the tailback it caused going all the way to the dual carriageway and finally ending at the crematorium slip road.  The huge increase in traffic along this road can not only be dangerous, but will be unhealthy too.  Chatting with locals there seems to be many variations on what is happening with rumours of other mine shafts in the area apart from a lack of knowledge over what is going on with the current issue.

Those responsible for the fixing of the issue should use local printers to produce leaflets for delivery to locals explaining what has happened, how it is going to be fixed and the length of time it will all take.
