A key site in Balloch has been earmarked for a massive family oriented leisure complex, with an investment figure being mentioned of around £30million.
Scottish Enterprise, who own the site which is around 20 hectares, have named a preferred developer for the Balloch location.
The Plans so far involve a hotel, hostel, lodges, glamping pods along with the usual suspects such as restaurants.
The area around Loch Lomond Shores has seen steadily growing tourist numbers over recent years and won a tourist award earlier in 2016 for Best Day Out. It is hoped that the development will substantially increase visitor numbers and the preferred developer, who run a successful site in Yorkshire, want to see the site making a significant contribution to jobs and wealth in the area.
Although many locals are keen for the jobs and how this project will add to the area, others are less keen. The project is happening in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park and many have been complaining about how easy it is to push through a £30m development in contrast to the hoops the locals have to go through to get new windows put in. The petition, started by George Mcmillan, has seen over 17900 signatures to date. George Mcmillan said that it is a place of natural beauty of which would be forever reduced if developments like this one get the go ahead. He is hoping that the petition will be seen as a strong voice against the commercialisation of a national gem for future generations. He hope that in the longer term, this petition will in turn keep the national parks free from these kind of planning applications.
