In Alexandria, Bill Clezy who is a former pipe major, now runs a kilt and kilt hire business. He also makes bagpipes too and whilst this started as a garden shed hobby it is now an established an international business.
Mr Clezy, who served in the army until he was 59 has been commissioned to design and make a tartan to mark the centenary year of Erskine - which will be used to raise funds for the charity. He says that the Erskine Centenary Tartan will incorporate the traditional colours of all three Armed Services; Navy, Army and RAF along with the gold of the Erskine Centenary crest. The process is not as simple as it sounds with many meetings required as well as producing five different designs and associated tweaking until there was a final design approved.
The tartan is now in production and ready for shipping to start when the orders come in. It can be made into kilts but also trews, skirts and waistcoats.
Krystyna Caulfield, Marketing Officer at Erskine said that they were delighted to launch the Centenary Tartan in partnership with Argyll Kilts, especially as they are renowned the world over for their wonderful hand sewn, military kilts.
