Wheelchair racer from Dunfermline heading to London

A youth from Dunfermline who uses his wheelchair to race competitively is preparing himself for a big challenge, as he will be heading down to London to take part in a mini marathon.

Callum Sloan, aged 11, was born suffering from an injury to his spinal cord, but he has battled back from this to become an athlete for Disability Sport Fife, using a racing chair custom built for his needs.

Now, the pupil from McLean Primary School is entering the London Mini Marathon, which is one of the biggest events for wheelchair athletes at the junior level.

His entire family will be going down to the capital to cheer him on and Gayle, his mum, told the Dunfermline Press that she cannot wait to witness him in action:

“I think I might shed a few tears. His gran and granddad are coming too so it will be a big family event! We’re all really excited for him.”

The family will have the option of making use of banner printing in Dunfermline if they want to take along celebratory Banners to help show their support.

Callum began racing at the age of eight and got his current customised racing chair three years ago, thanks to money raised by the netball club at St Andrews University.

This year’s London Mini Marathon is set to take place on 26th April.
