Dunfermline could get mural of historical figure

Dunfermline could be set to get a brand new mural depicting Robert the Bruce, if Fife Council approves the application that has been submitted for it.

This mural is the brainchild of Dunfermline Medieval Heritage Group, which wants to see it painted on a wall in the heritage quarter of the city. If the council gives the go ahead, it would feature Robert the Bruce alongside Sir Thomas Randolph, his nephew. The site that is being proposed for it is at 11 Maygate and is a gable wall that is currently blank.

Dunfermline Medieval Heritage Group is hoping to get Donna Forrester to create the mural. She is an artist who was born in the city and who has produced several such artworks in the past, including murals in Comrie and Kelty.

Public artworks of this kind can be significant tourist attractions. The local council has the option of using brochure printing by shops in Dunfermline to create information Brochures letting visitors know about them.

According to the Dunfermline Press, the Heritage Group’s planning statement says:
“This transformative work of public art is designed to celebrate the city’s unique heritage while providing an engaging visual landmark for residents and visitors alike.”

It has the backing of Central Dunfermline Community Council as well as the public. The finished mural would come with a board containing information about it.
