When people imagine objects that would go on display at an arts centre, old washing machines and vacuum cleaners probably aren’t top of the list, but they are the subject of a unique new exhibition in Dunfermline.
This exhibition features a wide range of vintage washing machines and vacuums and is being promoted by Andrew Thomson, a store that specialises in electrical appliances based on Dunfermline High Street. The venue is the centre for contemporary arts, Fire Station Creative, and it will run for a month.
The owner of the store stated that he was pleased to be involved in the exhibition, which includes many products that it has stocked over the years. The appliances are the property of Kevin Cox, a collector who has been interested in the subject since he was young.
Speaking to the Dunfermline Press, he said his curious passion began as a teenager and saw him buy vintage washing machines and vacuum cleaners, before restoring them in a way that preserved their original look. Brochure printers are often used to produce Catalogues for exhibitions like this. Cox added:
“These machines are part of our domestic social heritage as well as being fine examples of industrial design. It will hopefully give visitors the chance to indulge in some domestic history nostalgia.”
The exhibition will be running until 3rd March.
