The MP for Dunfermline, Douglas Chapman, stated that this funding represented a huge leap forward for the project, which would see the town linked with Glasgow by a passenger train service. Consultation company Capita has been brought in by Fife Council to carry out a Strategic Transport Pre-Appraisal, examining transport options that include a rail line.
This study is set to explore the possibility of what is being described as a ‘multi-modal transport network’ after Longannet Power Station closed its doors in March last year. A meeting took place between Chapman, Shirley-Anne Somerville, MSP for Dunfermline and Humza Yousaf, the transport minister, at the end of last year, where this was discussed.
Speaking to a reporter from the Dunfermline Press, Somerville stated that:
“The Scottish Government has already taken decisive action following the closure of Longannet, by investing £2.7 million in regeneration projects in West Fife, and the contribution of £30,000 to a transport appraisal for the area is good for businesses and commuters.”
This appraisal will examine river, road and rail transport options for the town and brochure printers may be required to help produce material showcasing the different choices to people who live in the area.Get a Free Quote for Plans
