South Dunfermline Gala blows away visitors

Visitors to the annual South Dunfermline Gala, held on Saturday, 16th August, found themselves buffeted by powerful winds – but the daredevil display put on by a stunt group was what really blew them away.

The ‘Flaming High Fall’ performance by Stannage International Stunt Team – which features ramp jumps, fire feats and even one member of the troupe hurling himself from the top of a tower measuring 50-feet in height – was the undoubted highlight of the gala for most attendees, although it was far from the only entertainment on offer.

There were also stalls manned by residents, fairground rides, bungee trampoline, races, and a tombola to keep people amused, and the day proved to be a resounding success, with the help of the publicity poster and flyer printing of Print companies in Dunfermline. Morag Ure, the secretary of the gala committee, told the Dunfermline Press:

“We had a great gala. The wind was quite strong but it was fun – although the guy who did the high fall said it was quite scary at the top!

“It was a good day out and it’s encouraging that people do come back year after year.”

The gala also proved to be a fundraising triumph, with Ure confirming that over £300 was generated from the sale of snacks and drinks. Volunteers for future events are welcomed by Pitcorthie Community Council, with interested parties encouraged to get in touch.
