Reopening planned for Dunfermlines Abbot House

It has now been confirmed that one of the most popular and historic tourist attractions in Dunfermline is set to reopen to the general public, following a lengthy period of discussions.

The Carnegie Dunfermline Trust has reassumed control of Abbot House, which had to close its doors late last summer for financial reasons, and has committed to restoring it ahead of a relaunch.

This organisation originally presented the building – known locally as the ‘Pink House’ – to Dunfermline Heritage Trust a quarter of a century ago, but has now taken control of it again and will work on renovating it.

In the statement it released to confirm the news, the trust said that getting it back into a suitable condition for the public would require time, but that it would strive to complete it as soon as possible. It also asked local people to show patience while this process took place.

Nora Rundell, the Chief Executive of the trust, told a reporter from the Dunfermline Press:

“It won’t be quick, partly because of the condition of the building and partly because we need to be sensible about how we plan to go forward. We’re not going to rush it.”
