Park in Dunfermline could be redeveloped

A park in Dunfermline could be set to undergo a major redevelopment that will see many new amenities installed within it, with this expected to cost £4 million to complete.

The Plans to renovate McKane Park would see a 4G Astroturf sports pitch created there, along with a stand for spectators to view sporting events from. Other possible facilities include two new courts for squash games, multiple changing rooms, a suite for hosting functions in and a new bar on the site of the current sports lounge that would feature an outdoor beer garden.

Estimates of the total cost of these Plans are around £4 million, and the hope is that they will persuade more local people to take an interest in the squash, cricket and rugby clubs that play there.

The redevelopment would also open up the potential for the park to host other sports like football, basketball, badminton and tennis. Brochure printing from Dunfermline shops can provide local sports clubs with programmes to sell or give away at their matches.

Scott Murphy, the Dunfermline Rugby Club Vice President, told the Dunfermline Press that:

“There’s a lot to do as the project is really in its infancy. It’ll probably be five-to-10 years before it’s completed, hopefully nearer five.”

Murphy added that the next stage was to find out the level of enthusiasm among residents.
