New Dunfermline cycling hub ready to go

Efforts to construct a brand new hub for cyclists at a park in Dunfermline has now been completed.

The chosen location for this new facility is Pittencrieff Park, which was formerly home to a centre for animals, and the site has been given a thorough makeover. The project cost £90,000 to carry out in total. The new cycle hub will be used for a number of purposes and is part of wider Plans to get more people using the park for cycling and these Plans have attracted significant funding.

Speaking to the Dunfermline Press, Kirsteen Torrance from the local council stated that the hub would provide real benefits to residents regardless of age and that it would be the ideal space for a wide variety of different events to be held.

She also stated that several local organisations would be able to use it, including Cyclestart and Dunfermline Cycling Club, and such groups often promote their activities with flyer printing. Torrance went on to add that:

“The Carnegie Dunfermline Trust has paid for new equipment – including innovative ‘Cycling Without Age’ bikes – where older adults or individuals with mobility issues can experience a low-speed, very social trike experience through the Glen piloted by volunteers.”

As yet, an official date has not been set for the new hub to be opened to the general public.
