Gillian Campbell received a diagnosis of cervical cancer in February of 2018, following tests that she underwent after her cervical smear results showed abnormalities. Happily, she made a full recovery after surgery and she is now looking to raise some funds for the Maggie’s cancer charity and celebrate a year free of the disease by having all of her hair shaved off.
The 36-year-old resides in the Masterton district of Dunfermline with her family and is making the arrangements for her close shave. The venue for the event itself will be the town’s Max Training Academy. Fundraising events of this sort are often promoted locally using flyer printing services.
Speaking to the Dunfermline Press, Gillian stated that she had been fortunate that her diagnosis was made early, but that she recognised that not everyone was in that position, which was why she wanted to do this, adding:
“My hair is about shoulder-length just now – I am nervous about it but apparently it is quite liberating to shave your head. I suppose if it rains, it will mean my hair doesn’t get messed up.”
The event has been scheduled for 27th July.
