Local multi-storey block unveils community hub

A brand new facility has been launched within a refurbished block of Dunfermline multi-storey flats, with the aim of improving the community feel for those living there.

The block is one of three situated on Broomhead Drive, and two of its flats have been changed into a space for community use, as refurbishment work on them nears its completion.

The vacant flats, which are on the ground floor, have been turned into a single space that can hold around 50 people and be utilised for a range of purposes, including social and formal meetings, fitness classes and groups for mothers and toddlers.

There is also a smaller space that will be employed for private meetings with specialist agencies and officers, while the hope is that the kitchen facilities can help encourage healthy eating among residents.

Already, the Broomhead Tenants and Residents Association is working with those living in the area to begin planning the first activities for the hub and Judy Hamilton, a housing spokeswoman, told the Courier that enthusiasm was high:

“To hear they are being encouraged to get involved in some of the new community projects developed on their own doorstep shows a great community spirit.”

Those managing the community hub will be able to rely on Print shops in Dunfermline to provide them with leaflets advertising the various groups and activities on offer there.
