Free swimming continues in Fife

Children in Fife will still benefit from free swimming lessons despite other areas of council funding being hit by budget cuts.

Many local amenities and services have seen budgets cut by the local authorities as part of a recent cost-saving exercise. However, as well as free swimming during school holidays for children, the 'Quid a Kid' activity scheme will continue to be run with funding and support from Fife Council.

Swimming session schedules and leisure centre timetables are usually printed using digital full colour printing. Dunfermline residents and those people living in the wider Fife region can pick up these documents to take home, meaning sessions are more likely to be attended.

The Quid a Kid scheme is run by Fife Council and offers local children the chance to participate in leisure activities for £1, with the idea of making sport and leisure available to a wider audience of children at a low price.

Mark Hood, a local councillor, spoke about the scheme, saying:

“We’re delighted to announce £120,000 for these fantastic schemes today as part of the budget. The council is really making an investment for the future here and it’s great to be able to use this money to encourage young people in the Kingdom to lead active and healthy lifestyles, whilst having fun too."

The scheme currently offers activities like badminton, table tennis and short tennis to local children and is designed to keep children active. More information is available on the Fife Direct website.
