Festival in Dunfermline to launch with musical

The biggest cultural festival in Dunfermline will be returning to the town later this year, and the 2025 event is set to get underway with a performance of an acclaimed musical.

The Outwith Festival is one of the high points of the year in Dunfermline and it attracts people from all over the world. Now, the organisers have announced that this year’s festival will kick off with a performance of ‘Mary, Queen of Rock’. This is a rock musical that had its first performance during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival of 2024.

It was greeted with considerable critical acclaim and has since gone on to become a massive theatrical hit. The show has enjoyed successful runs on both Broadway and the West End of London, so it is a real coup for the festival.

The musical presents an alternative history of Mary, Queen of Scots – who is here dubbed Mary, Queen of Rock. She has to overcome the Scottish Reformation, which has imposed a ban on rock and roll.

When it comes to promoting local cultural events, poster printing by shops in Dunfermline can be useful, as they are an excellent way to get the word out.

The producer of ‘Mary, Queen of Rock’ is Pretty Knickers Productions, which is an all-female theatre troupe. It will be performed in Carnegie Hall on 3 September.

The festival ends of 7 September.
