Expansion plans for Dunfermline theatre

The Alhambra Theatre in Dunfermline is set to become bigger and better than ever thanks to new Plans to expand the venue.

The Plans will see the venue increase its capacity by around 40 per cent to allow the theatre to accommodate bigger audiences which should, in theory, pull in bigger shows and touring acts from across the UK. The bigger the act, the more the theatre is able to charge and profits could be then ploughed back into improving the theatre further.

The theatre’s owner, Bill Fletcher, spoke about the Plans, saying:

“These Plans are very ambitious but we aim to compete with Scotland's big city theatres. At present the theatre is operating at 50 per cent potential and it's hoped these developments will allow us to develop to this level.

“This increased capacity would make us the second-biggest theatre in Scotland behind the Edinburgh Playhouse, which in fact is the biggest in Britain. When it comes to rock bands it's all about how many people they can get in to watch them so this would make a huge difference to the acts coming here if we could hold 2,500.”

Regardless of size, many venues across Scotland rely on event promotion to pull in the audiences; the Alhambra is no exception. Print companies in Dunfermline often work with the theatre to produce Posters and programmes using full colour printing.

Dunfermline residents can expect the expansion work to start in the coming months, subject to the council approving a planning application.
