Edinburgh festival brochure now suitable for all ages

The brochure for this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe is now suitable for all ages, thanks to the decision to censor swear words.

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe, an event that attracts thousands of visitors each year, has made the brochure for the 2012 festival suitable for all ages by removing or censoring swear words, or any language that could be considered offensive.

An Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society spokesperson addressed the matter in a recent interview, saying:

“The Fringe Society is not doing anything this year that it's not done in previous years. Whilst one of the most important aspects of the Fringe is the complete freedom of performers and writers to decide on the content of their shows, the Fringe listings and the programme are seen by around one million people and contain over 200 children's shows. For those reasons they need to be suitable for readers of all ages as they have always been.”

Brochure printers in Dunfermline, Edinburgh and the surrounding areas have worked with local artists and performers over the years to produce promotional material, programmes and Brochures for shows that are featured at the Festival Fringe or run throughout the year. Brochures are a key part of a festival like this one, as they are not only used for reference, they are also often taken home by visitors after the festival and kept as souvenirs.

Every year, around 400,000 Copies of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe brochure are printed and distributed to festival-goers.
