Dunfermline student is catwalk class

A fashion student from Dunfermline is getting the best possible exposure for her catwalk creations, with her designs featuring in a number of events throughout the spring and summer.

Jenna Rankin, a 21-year-old textiles and fashion student at Aberdeen’s Gray’s School of Art, was one of several graduating students to showcase work at its fashion show held recently in Robert Gordon University.

However, this was just the first stage, as Jenna’s clothes will also feature in the annual Degree Show organised by Gray’s, which is set to take place in late June and includes work from students on all courses.

Speaking to a reporter from the Dunfermline Press, Jenna, who used to attend the town’s Woodmill High School, stated that she had been looking forward to this moment from the very beginning of her course.

The outfits she designs incorporate silhouette and innovative fit, in an attempt to look at the connections between the body, clothing and the space inhabited by them. She explained:
“My collection questions how we wear basic garments such as the classic shirt or a suit, by removing the pieces from their traditional context and subverting their connotations on the body.”

Student graduation shows of this kind frequently make use of poster printing in Dunfermline and similar places.

The Gray’s show is being held between 20th and 27th June.
