Dunfermline market to welcome special guest this weekend

The farmers' market in Dunfermline is set for a royal treat this weekend as one of the most famous monarchs in Scottish history is paying a visit to encourage people in the area to buy local produce.

Robert the Bruce, or at least a version of him, will be at the market tomorrow, thanks to the Herald Events street theatre company. The arrangement is to commemorate the birth date of the famous historic figure, who was king of Scotland from 1306 until 1329. He was buried at Dunfermline Abbey and has always been seen as a hero by many in the community.

The market is held regularly and is organised to encourage residents to shop locally and support traders from the region. Its organisers are always looking for new ways to draw more visitors, whether this is through street theatre or more traditional promotional techniques like flyer printing. Dunfermline Delivers supports the popular event and the organisation’s chief executive, Maggie Mitchell, spoke about the occasion, saying:

"It is a very enjoyable weekend and we are hoping that Robert the Bruce can encourage more to attend and experience this incredible event set against the stunning background of the abbey. With even more activities going on in Dunfermline High Street this year we expect that the Bruce Festival will be 'the place to be' that weekend."

The market is held on the second Saturday of each month and more information can be found online.
