Dunfermline man takes on New York charity run

A man from Dunfermline undertook a long distance run through New York recently, with the aim of raising money for a mental health charity.

Having won himself a ticket that allowed him to enter this year’s New York City Marathon, 34-year-old David Collins – who lives in McDonald Street – decided to use this opportunity to help a charity he holds dear.

He has faced problems with anxiety in the past and this made him keen to run in support of the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH), with his efforts bringing in over £3,500.

The marathon’s route also enabled him to see many of the Big Apple’s more iconic attractions, such as Central Park, Queensboro Bridge and Staten Island, and he told the Dunfermline Press that it had been hard work but fun:

“But there were more than a million people out on the streets cheering you on and the atmosphere was something I’d never experienced before; it was surreal.”

Local fundraisers for charity, such as this one, often make use of places that offer poster printing in Dunfermline to provide them with materials for helping spread the word.

Following his return to Dunfermline, Collins put together a tournament for five-a-side football, to bring in further funds. Having started out with a target of £1,000, and he stated that the final total had delighted both him and the charity.
