Dunfermline listed in Amazons top 20 literary towns

According to The Independent, Amazon has recently compiled a list of the most literary places within the UK, using the sales of its reading material last year. Every major town and city was used for the research, and while Huntingdon was the top literary place in the UK, Dunfermline made it to the top 20.

Amazon used the sales of all its magazines, Books and newspapers, in Print and bought on Kindle. Some towns were dubbed according to their most read Books, including Doncaster, which has been described as the ‘city of love’ due to the number of people buying romance novels, and Cambridge and Oxford bought the most business, law, and finance Books.

The list was compiled according to how many Books were read in the town. Huntingdon came first, followed by Doncaster and Rochester, and Dunfermline was placed at number 12. These towns were all in the top 20 before, and the only new addition to the list was Bridgend.

According to the vice president of Kindle, people are reading more Books than ever, and Amazon’s popular e-reader is increasing the rate at which people get through both fiction and non-fiction.

This highlights the continuing need for the printed word. There are many opportunities to make the most of Print shops in Dunfermline, and business especially can benefit from their services.
