Special celebrations are set to be held later this month in Dunfermline, in commemoration of the life of one of the town’s most famous residents.
The first Andrew Carnegie Day is set for 25th November, the famous entrepreneur’s birthday, in tribute to the legacy he left behind as a philanthropist and successful businessman.
The decision to hold the event was made by Visit Dunfermline, the town’s official visitor website, together with national history festival ‘Previously…’, following the success of events held back in 2010 to mark the famous Scot’s 175th birthday.
The special day will open with a breakfast held at the town’s Carnegie Conference Centre, where Sir Tom Farmer – founder of the Kwik-Fit brand – will be present as a guest speaker. The magnate was the first Scottish recipient of the Andrew Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy.
After the breakfast, events will be held throughout the day at several venues in the town, including the Carnegie Library and the Carnegie Birthplace Museum.
According to Dunfermline Press, Michelle Kinness of FMC Technologies – one of the companies that hosted the celebrations in 2010 – said the Andrew Carnegie Day will not only pay homage to the man; it will also showcase everything that Dunfermline can offer visitors.
Organisations in towns and villages across the Fife region turn to professionals for materials to publicise upcoming events, particularly poster and banner printing in Dunfermline.
Carnegie was born in 1835 and emigrated to the US in 1848, where he eventually became one of the country’s wealthiest businessmen.
