These devices can be vital in saving the lives of those who have suffered heart attacks and the money required to purchase them is being provided by the Common Good Fund set up by Fife Council, the Mary Leishman Foundation and the town’s rotary club.
Once they arrive, these defibrillators will be stored at several different locations in Dunfermline – Bridge Street’s City Hotel, the High Street’s Linen Exchange and Guildhall, and the Kingsgate Shopping Centre. They will be available for use at all times, in the case of emergencies.
Speaking to the Dunfermline Press, the Kingsgate’s facilities manager, Kenny Arnott, stated that:
“I’ve ordered the defibrillators and the Boxes. I’m hoping to get them here by the end of next week and available for use within a fortnight.”
The campaign to secure these pieces of medical equipment was called “Take Heart” and was started up by the newspaper during 2015. In addition to raising the money to purchase the defibrillators, it is also seeking to get more local people to learn CPR techniques.
