Bike race returning to Dunfermline this year

A criterium cycle race taking place on closed roads in Dunfermline will hit the town again this summer, after the inaugural event last year proved an outstanding success.

The 2014 race was hosted by the Active Fife team from Fife Council, in collaboration with partners like Dunfermline Cycling Club. The former has announced that it will be held again this year in June.

There will be a timed race along roads that have been closed off to traffic, taking in Maygate, Dunfermline Abbey and Pittencrieff Park, and separate races will be available for male, female and younger competitors.

As well as the main circuit, there will also be a ‘crit’ race – with this part of the competition attracting 66 men and 21 women in 2014 – the most female competitors riding in a closed cycle race in Scotland that summer.

Given the enthusiasm of local people for last year’s race, it seems sure to be a hit again, but poster printing in Dunfermline can also be employed to advertise it.

Councillor Helen Law, chair of the City of Dunfermline, stated that she was thrilled that the race would take place again this year:

“I really hoped that the race would be on again after it was so successful last year, so I’m really pleased.”

The 2015 criterium bike race will be held in the centre of Dunfermline, on Thursday, 4th June.
