This centre is being built in the Craigie district of Ayr and will cost a total of £8.2m. The construction firm in charge is Heron Bros and the finished centre will serve as a replacement for the existing facility Dam Park, which has become increasingly worn in recent years.
Its amenities will include a 3G pitch that can be used at all times of the year, as well as a special section for field athletics, a 60-metre track for indoor running and a 400-metre outdoor one with eight running lanes. The hope is that it will enable Ayr to attract major national athletics events.
People planning to attend athletics competitions often go to local shops that provide banner printing, so that they can take Banners showing their support for different athletes.
Speaking to the Daily Record, Peter Henderson from the local council and the steering group for the scheme said:
“It will become not only a focal point for sporting achievement in South Ayrshire, it will also encourage the wider public to get active, providing them with further opportunity locally to grow well, live well and age well.”
The centre will take a year to construct.
