James McLean, 23, intends to make two sponsored bicycle trips around the isle of Cumbrae, which was a favourite childhood spot, to raise cash for the charity.
Fundraising efforts like McLean’s, which is scheduled for 28th June, often rely on the support of local businesses, like Print companies in Ayr and other places that can provide publicity poster printing.
The student suffered horrendous injuries in 2003 following a 60-foot drop from Greenan Castle, and was left with paralysis, epilepsy and blindness in one eye. The damage was so extensive that doctors rated his survival chances at below 10 percent, and it was while his mum Judith was saying goodbye to him that he showed initial Signs of life.
McLean told the press:
“I came to the conclusion that if I can help others who are impaired in some way, then that’s what I must do.”
Although he faced a long recovery process, McLean has been successful in building a life for himself and is studying business administration at Ayrshire College.
