Stars to switch on lights in Ayr

After the disappointment of 2015, this year’s event to switch on the Christmas lights in Ayr is set to see a number of big names from the sporting and music worlds adding a little stardust.

Thousands of the town’s residents seem likely to hit the centre of Ayr for the occasion, having endured the frustration of bad weather forcing its cancellation last year. Those who decide to get into the Christmas spirit by attending the switch-on will be able to see the likes of actress Michelle Heaton, musical star Gareth Gates and Robyn Love – the town’s very own Paralympic hero.

All of these have been confirmed for the event and Gates, who first rose to prominence through the television talent show Pop Idol, told the Daily Record that:

“To be asked to switch on the Christmas lights is fantastic and I’m so pleased to be in Ayr again. I was here at the beautiful Gaiety Theatre in Mad About the Musicals so it’s fair to say I love the place.”

Set to last for six hours, the event will also see the likes of Andy Kerr, Three Card Trick and Sean C Kennedy perform, alongside appearances from Gates, Love and Heaton – who is starring in the town’s festive pantomime.

It takes place on the 20th November and places that provide poster printing may be used to help promote it.
